With the Aug. 5 submission deadline for Texas women artists quickly approaching, Texas Vignette has announced that Emily Edwards, associate curator at Dallas Contemporary, will serve as curator of the fifth-annual Vignette Art Fair. (See bio below.) The popular two-day juried event, which takes place Nov. 3-4, 2023, at Dallas Market Hall, exclusively features works by Texas women artists in an effort to promote exceptional yet underrepresented regional talent.
“I am tremendously honored to serve as curator and juror for the 2023 Vignette Art Fair,” said Edwards. “Since its inception, Vignette's unflappable dedication to supporting women and female-identifying artists has served as a lodestar for my own curatorial practice. I look forward to surveying the breadth of artistic talent in Texas in the coming months.”
The call-for-entries deadline is Aug. 5, and selected artists will be notified by Sept. 4. The submission fee is $36. For qualifications/rules, details and instructions, go to texasvignette.org.
The Vignette Art Fair is among the only fully submission-based art fairs in the world that solely features the work of women artists where 100% of all sales go directly to the artists.

Participants must identify as female and be a current Texas resident. Submission requirements include an artist statement, bio, CV and a link to the artist’s website and/or Instagram handle.
Founded in 2017 by Ingle, Texas Vignette works to close the gender disparity gap as female artists are not represented in museum exhibitions, acquisitions and galleries nearly as often as their male counterparts.

ABOUT THE CURATOR. Emily Edwards is the Associate Curator at Dallas Contemporary. While there, she has curated solo exhibitions of artists Gabrielle Goliath, Natalie Wadlington, Shilpa Gupta, Ariel Rene Jackson, and Margarita Cabrera and assisted over 30 exhibitions. She is currently working on presentations of artists Bianca Bondi and Chloe Chiasson to open in the fall of 2023. Edwards is the recipient of a 2023 ICI Étant Donneés Contemporary Art Curatorial Fellowship. She has served as a juror for the Hopper Prize and South Arts Prize. Prior to Dallas, she worked on the curatorial team at the 9/11 Memorial Museum. Her practice is dedicated to working with historically underrepresented artists whose work reflects both the surrounding communities and contemporary times. She graduated with a BFA with Honors in Art History from the University of Texas at Austin and an MA in Art History and Museum Studies from Georgetown University.
