The Trinity Valley Community College Cardettes drill team won the crowd over with their precision moves.

It's officially State Fair season now that the parade has wound through downtown. As onlookers crowded around Main Street, several found their way to a stand offering the legendary Fletcher's Corny Dogs, a State Fair of Texas treat almost as feverishly anticipated as the fair itself.

The United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps headed the parade, which started promptly at noon. The highlight, save for the Elvis impersonators on minibikes, was Lake Highlands' own Wildcat Wranglers, who put on a great show.

While this year's fair is a big one for Big Tex, who should be getting his AARP membership card any day now at 60, the State Fair of Texas will also feature the Chinese Lantern Festival. Several stilt walkers dressed in asian-themed costumes highlighted the exhibition.
