Chris McGuire leads his group, the Chris McGuire Quintet, in an opening set that brings out the humor in jazz by way of hard swinging music with vocals and blowin’. The group performs songs from jazz greats such as Louis Jordan, Jon Hendricks, and Lionel Hampton. With Chris on sax, clarinet, and vocals, the set includes Rodney Booth on trumpet and vocals, Lynn Seaton on bass, Andrew Griffith on drums, and Peter Rioux on piano.
The Satin Dolls Band is an all-female jazz quintet formed to celebrate 20th century women singers, composers, and lyricists. With a repertoire spanning classic jazz, blues, Broadway, and original compositions, the band is led by vocalist Carolyn Lee Jones and features pianist Rebecca Cordes, bassist Peggy Honea, drummer Ann E. MacMillan, and saxophonist/flautist Joyce Spencer.
