Reading Partners Dallas
Reading Partners is a national education nonprofit dedicated to recruiting and training community volunteers to provide one-on-one tutoring to elementary school students reading 6 months to 2.5 years behind grade level. We partner with Title I elementary schools to give our students the intervention the need to get back on track and have an equitable chance at academic and professional success.
During the 2013-14 school year 84% of 4th graders from low-income backgrounds failed to show grade level proficiency in literacy. This overwhelming majority of students lack the fundamental skill needed to succeed in school and in life. In fact, statistics show that children not reading on grade level by the third grade are four times less likely to graduate on time.
Reading Partners offers anyone the opportunity to help combat this trend.
Volunteer tutors dedicate one hour, once or twice a week, to tutor one student; no experience is necessary. We use a structured, research-based curriculum proven to show results. On average, for every month in the program students more than double their rate of learning.
Currently, our entirely volunteer-based program operates on 18 campuses across DISD, serving over 800 students. To learn more or sign up to volunteer, please visit info.readingpartners.org/volunteer-in-dallas, give us a call at 214.821.4500, or email volunteerdal@readingpartners.org.
