The United States Department of Labor estimates that, “by 2020, workers 55 and [older] will make up 25 percent of the U.S. civilian labor force, up from 13 percent in 2000.” Based on statistics like this and a mission to help all older adults in North Texas, The Senior Source will host “Hire Experience: A Job Fair For Individuals 50+” on Tuesday, September 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Skillman Church of Christ located at 3014 Skillman Street in East Dallas. This annual event coincides with National Employ Older Adult Workers Week and is geared to those looking for a new job, planning a career change or seeking to return to the workforce after retirement. It is free and open to individuals age 50 and older. No pre-registration is necessary. Attendees are just asked to bring multiple copies of their resume, be dressed for success, and be prepared to discuss their skills and strengths with potential employers. “Hire Experience” is coordinated by The Senior Source in conjunction with the Skillman Church of ChristOther sponsors are City of Dallas Senior Services, AARP Foundation and Careerdfw.org. Older worker Eleanor Ramirez utilized The Senior Source’s Senior Employment Program services to work on interviewing skills, resume building and networking before attending the 2015 “Hire Experience” job fair. At that event, she was connected with Apple Care Companion, a business that provides home care services for seniors. After completing the interview process, she was offered the position of Office Manager at the company and continues to work there to this day. Ramirez credits The Senior Source and the “Hire Experience” job fair in helping her find a job that is a perfect fit.

“I was impressed by the professionalism and the companies The Senior Source has in place [at the job fair],” says Ramirez. “I would never have found this position on my own.”
