DALLAS (Oct. 2, 2012) – Dallas attorney Don Glendenning, a tireless advocate for human rights and the disadvantaged, will receive the 2012 Hope for Humanity Award from the Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education and Tolerance (DHM/CET).
Glendenning will be honored at the DHM/CET’s Hope for Humanity Dinner on Tuesday, October 30 at the Fairmont Dallas.
Hope for Humanity Award honorees are dedicated to the improvement of the North Texas community and to the mission of promoting tolerance, Holocaust education and creating a community of UPSTANDERS (the opposite of bystanders). Recent recipients have included Dallas businessman and arts philanthropist Frank Risch; former Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Roger Staubach; and former President and CEO of what is now the AT&T Performing Arts Center, Bill Lively.
“The Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education and Tolerance is proud to have chosen Don as this year’s 2012 Hope for Humanity honoree,” said Hylton Jonas, chairman of the DHM/CET board of directors. “His commitment to the many causes that he serves, the principles that he stands for and his work endorsing human rights for all people make him the ideal Hope for Humanity Award recipient.”
Serving as Honorary Chairs Summa Honorari for the 2012 Hope for Humanity Dinner are philanthropists and community leaders Louise Gartner and Margaret McDermott. Honorary Chairs are Serena Simmons Connelly, co-founder of the Human Rights Initiative of North Texas; Mary McDermott Cook, philanthropist and Chair of the Trinity Trust Foundation; community leaders and philanthropists Barbara Durham and Steve Durham; community leader and philanthropist Gigi Gartner; Michael Meadows, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Dallas Zoological Society; businessman and philanthropist Dan Patterson; and community leader, philanthropist and President of the Harold Simmons Foundation Lisa Simmons.

In a city known for its can-do outlook, Glendenning is a shining example of Dallas’ giving spirit.
“When I’m not serving clients,” says Glendenning, Managing Partner of the Dallas Office of Locke Lord LLP in his typical straightforward manner, “I am out pursuing causes that I believe matter. That brings me a great deal of life satisfaction.”
One of the major causes to which Glendenning has devoted his passion is the Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education and Tolerance (DHM/CET), which honors him with the 2012 Hope for Humanity Award. A member of the DHM/CET Board of Directors since 2007, Glendenning currently serves as a board Vice President. He is an advocate in advancing the DHM/CET mission of preserving the memory of the Holocaust and teaching the moral and ethical response to hatred, prejudice and indifference, for the benefit of all humanity.
Living the DHM/CET ideal of “history that moves you forward,” Glendenning dedicates his time to multiple organizations simultaneously, working tirelessly to continue to mold the City he loves into the dream that so many believe possible: a place that engages all generations and walks of life, where all accept the commonality of our one, human race, and strive to fulfill the obligations we have to one another. This may be a utopian concept for some, but it’s a life mission for Glendenning.
Glendenning currently serves as Co-Chair of the Campaign for the New Parkland, together with Co-Chair Nancy Strauss Halbreich, community leader and philanthropist; President of Scenic Texas and Scenic Dallas; and he is on the boards of the Dallas Regional Chamber, the Dallas Theater Center, KERA, Parkland Foundation, TACA, Texas Trees Foundation and Arbor Day Foundation. He is a Past Chairman of the Dallas Zoological Society and Thanks-Giving Square Foundation; Past President of Human Rights Initiative of North Texas and the Rice University DFW Alumni; and a former director of the National Tree Trust and the Tocqueville Cabinet of the United Way. He serves on the Advisory Boards of Promising Youth Alliance and KIPP Dallas-Fort Worth.
He is a recipient of the 2011 Justinian Award from the Dallas Lawyers Auxiliary, the Anti-Defamation League of Dallas Schoenbrun Jurisprudence Award, the Dallas Zoological Society Good Egg Award, the Human Rights Initiative of North Texas Angel of Freedom and Distinguished Lifetime Service Awards, and the Legal Aid of Northwest Texas Pro Bono Award.
Immediately following their graduation from Stanford Law School, Glendenning and his wife, Carol, settled in Dallas 33 years ago. Both are still at the same firms they joined in 1979. Carol now serves as Chair of Strasburger & Price.
