In 1983, Shelter Ministries of Dallas founded Austin Street Center, the only shelter in the Dallas area that specializes in serving older adults who experience homelessness. Austin Street focuses on serving the most vulnerable of the adult homeless population: men, ages 45 and older, and women, ages 18 and older, as all females who are homeless face unique risks. In addition to providing the basics of shelter, food, and clothing, Austin Street provides programs and services to help people successfully transition out of homelessness.
