In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week (May 3-7, 2021), Teach For America DFW is excited to announce this year’s initiative to support local educators - Three Cheers For Teachers. This year, the experts at Teach For America DFW noted that teacher appreciation is particularly important in the wake of the challenges presented by COVID-19. As a result of the isolation experienced during the pandemic, Teach For America is focused on providing teachers with safe experiences and a sense of community as a token of their appreciation, including group meals, virtual cooking classes, virtual wellness experiences and more - and is asking the community for their help.

To show gratitude after an unprecedented school year, community members are invited to participate in Teach For America DFW’s “Three Cheers For Teachers” initiative by giving to the new Teacher Care Fund, writing notes of gratitude and spreading the word in their networks.

How to Participate In Three Cheers for Teachers:

  1. Give A Gift to Teachers- In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, Teach For America DFW has launched the new Teacher Appreciation Fund which will fund safe engagement experiences for local teachers. Teach For America DFW is providing appreciation meals to 400 local public school teachers from local restaurants - a win-win for deserving teachers and local eateries who have struggled this year. Every $25 sponsors a meal for a DFW teacher from a local restaurant, including Zaap Kitchen.

  1. Write A Note to Teachers- Teach For America DFW invites the community to write a note of appreciation to educators. The written, photo and video messages will be shared with teachers as they pick up their appreciation gifts and on social media throughout the week.

  2. Spread The Word - Community members are encouraged to spread the word about Teacher Appreciation Week, and why they decided to participate. Make sure to tag a favorite teacher and use the hashtag #thankyouteachers.

Teach For America DFW is creating a monumental impact in education across the region. The organization has reached over 400,000 students in 3,400 classrooms throughout the metroplex to date. In the 2020-2021 school year alone, Teach For America DFW served 75,000 students.

Donations to the Teacher Care Fund and efforts to support local teachers who always go above and beyond for DFW students but have continued to shine throughout the pandemic can be made at tfapta.org. Click the Teacher Appreciation Week banner for more.

ABOUT TEACH FOR AMERICA DFW

Teach For America finds, develops and supports a diverse network of leaders dedicated to expanding access and opportunity for children. These leaders begin with a commitment of at least two years of teaching in an under-resourced public school. Informed and inspired by their students, TFA alumni continue to advocate for children from classrooms, schools and every field that shapes the broader systems in which schools operate. TFA was launched in the DFW region in 2009, and has since served more than 400,000 students and trained more than 1,700 teachers.
