With St. Patrick’s Day officially on Tuesday, March 17th, you will need a number of venues to celebrate because if you start on Friday it’s a FIVE DAY Holiday!!!!  We’ve covered Bishop Arts District, Uptown, Lower and Upper Greenville.  So let’s stop off on Knox Henderson next.

The Capitol Pub has been an icon on Henderson Avenue forever.  And there’s a good reason.  They have a friendly staff, a nice selection of local craft and imported beer, barkeeps that know how to fix up a very tasty cocktail and a crisp glass of wine for the connoisseur in your party.    Starters include Steamed Clams & Mussels, the Mediterranean Plate for the healthy dieters and Tandoori Chicken Skewers.  Their salad selection is awesome with delicious selections like the Warm Goat Cheese Salad, Seared Rare Tuna Salad and Spinach & Strawberry Salad.    There’s a sandwich for everyone including the House Made Veggie Burger with the Gluten Free Bun, The Capitol Burger, the Wurst Brat, the Gruyere Ham & Prosciutto Melt and a lot more.  Another great place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!

Moving up to Plano you have to go to the Katy Trail Ice House Outpost.  This is the Plano version of the successful Uptown establishment.  The food is every bit as good including terrific BBQ which includes Brisket, Ribs and Sausage.  You can wash that down with a selection from their extensive list of Texas drafts and imported drafts.  They’ve also got a wide selection of Texas vodkas and Texas liquors.  If you want it they probably have it.  The patio will be the place to be this weekend as the weather forecast looks decent.  There are plenty of salads, sandwiches and appetizers to satisfy everyone’s taste.

Another place in Plano that is well known in the neighborhood and worth the trip for an outsider is Taverna  Rossa Craft Pizza and Beer.  Don’t let the name stigmatize you.  They have superb pizza.   But they also have some very fine Italian dishes that would compete with any Italian bistro.  Get the Stone Roasted Whole Artichoke to start off.  Then order up The Stag Salad which consists of spinach, arugula, crispy pancetta, blue cheese, red onion, black pepper sprinkled with shaken vinaigrette.   Delightful!  And so healthy!  Pasta dishes include the Lasagna (to die for!) and Luscher’s Sausage and Meatball Rigatoni (spectacular!).  Get the Apple Blossom for dessert and you’ll be set.  Two bars, a large patio, plenty of televisions….what more can you ask for on St. Patrick’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day weekend!

Traveling to Irving on the outskirts of Las Colinas is another place well known to the locals called F.M. Smokehouse.  Again…don’t let the name misguide you.  This name doesn’t do justice to the food and drink you will experience at this very fine locally owned & operated bar & grill.  Feast on Fried Pickle Chips, Fried Green Tomatoes and Wild Boar Empanadas to start with.  They have one of the best Chicken Fried Steaks you will ever devour.  Just order it up and you’ll see how truly good a chicken fried steak can be!  The Beer Can Half Chicken is perfect for the health conscious!  You have to try the Honey Bourbon Chicken Tacos too!  The bar is the center of attention.  You can choose from over 40 beers on tap many of which are brewed here in Texas.  The wine list includes a number of first class Texas wines.  And along with traditional craft cocktails you can also sip something special from their infused spirits.  It’s worth the drive to experience something new and different.

There are so so many places in Dallas it’s truly hard not to select all of them but we would have a list that would take you the entire weekend to read.  So our apologies to those that we missed!  Read the 4th and last run tomorrow for our final list of places to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
