For the second consecutive year, poverty-fighting organization CitySquare was a beneficiary of the Heart of Dallas Bowl. On December 23rd, Heart of Dallas Bowl teams spent time volunteering at CitySquare’s newly opened Opportunity Center at 1610 South Malcolm X Blvd. Players from Louisiana Tech and Illinois took time out from their practice schedules to distribute boxes of food weighing 25 pounds each (enough to feed a family of four for a week) to low-income families in South Dallas and handing out hygiene packs to homeless neighbors. The players spent time meeting families, playing with kids and visiting with CitySquare CEO Larry James.

“It’s obviously a big game, but it just shows that in the grand scheme of things it is just a game. It’s nice to be able to come together for this cause,” said Louisiana Tech kicker and Frisco native, Kyle Fischer about the camaraderie of the teams coming together to serve their host city.

The teams worked together with CitySquare to fight poverty on the 23rd but took the field as rivals on December 26th at the Heart of Dallas Bowl sponsored by Zaxby’s.  Louisiana Tech came away victorious.
