Interestingly enough, Oak Cliff residents are eager to watch some paint dry.

Buffered bike lanes planned for Fort Worth Avenue between Edgefield and Sylvan avenues are finally hitting the pavement. The dedicated bicycle lanes will take up the outside lanes of Fort Worth Avenue, reducing the car lane count from six to four.

The bike lanes almost didn't come about, which makes their debut all the more important. In a public/private partnership that has posed as an example to the rest of the city, the Fort Worth Avenue Development Group and the City of Dallas shared the costs of the striping. The project is part of the 2011 Dallas Bike Plan, which includes more than 800 miles of on-street bicycle lanes.

More bike lanes are planned for the area surrounding the Belmont Hotel and the future Sylvan Thirty development at Fort Worth and Sylvan avenues, including dedicated lanes east of Sylvan toward downtown.
