Community Council Welcomes New CEO Janie Bordner

Community Advocate Brings 20+ Years of Experience to the Leadership Role

DALLAS (July 1, 2019) – The Community Council of Greater Dallas board of directors is pleased toannounce the appointment of Janie Bordner as the organization’s new chief executive officer, effective July 1, 2019.

Bordner is an executive with a successful track record spanning over 20 years of leading diverse program and management teams and implementing innovative business development programs. WhileBordner’s position within the organization will be new, she is nostranger to the Council as she has served as the managing director of economic mobility and executive director of the Community Council’sworkforce mobility program, Skill QUEST, a program originally launched by Dallas Area Interfaith.

“The Community Council is very blessed to have found from within a new CEO with a proven track record of success,” said Peter Wahl, board chairof the Community Council. “Her passion for serving the communitycombined with her impressive skillset has our entire team excited about the future of The Community Council of Greater Dallas under herleadership.”

Bordner graduated with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Her roots in Dallas-area nonprofits run deep with her professional experience including previous roles as executive director of Dress for Success, executive director of the Low Birth Weight Center, director of operations and development for Operation Kindness, and the associate executive director of Bryan’s House.Additionally Bordner was the chief operating officer of a multimedia broadcast network prior to joining The Community Council of Greater Dallas.

In 2018, Bordner brought her talents to the Community Council with a focus on the agency’s Skill QUESTworkforce development and economic mobility programs. Her commitment to helping families move forward, leaving poverty behind, was evident from the very start, and under her management, the Skill QUEST organization has significantly expanded and diversified both its funding base and employer partnerships, enabling 65% growth in the number of low-income participants to join the program.

“I know from personal experience what it’s like to find yourself in a major medical crisis, or a prolonged financial crisis due to loss of income, and then you have to essentially start your life over again,” said Bordner. “I’m where I am today because of programs like the ones we provide at The Community Council of Greater Dallas. I am immensely proud to be leading an organization where we can truly help lift individualsand families out of poverty.”

With recurring support from both public and private funders, the Community Council of Greater Dallas lifts families out of poverty by connecting them with partners, programs and resources in North Texas. Keeping its focus on community wellness, community resources and workforce mobilization, the Community Council provides assistance to over 500,000 individuals annually. The Community Council of Greater Dallas was founded in 1940 and currently offers a wide variety of programs and services for seniors, working families and high-risk youth; health care enrollment and health education; and a major workforce development program, as well as a 2-1-1 Information and Referral Call Center that answers 350,000 calls annually.
