John Shinn Memorial Chili Cook-Off

Join Central Christian Church for the annual Chili Cook-Off held at 12 noon on Sunday, January 28 in the church’s fellowship hall.  A decade long tradition, the cook-off was re-named the John Shinn Memorial Chili Cook-Off two years ago in honor of two-time winner, the late John Shinn.

You don’t have to be a member of the church to participate in this fun activity looked forward to each January—the community is invited.

If you just want to come and sample a variety of chili, simply make a reservation by calling the church secretary at 214-526-7291.  There is no charge, but a donation basket will be placed on each table. The cook-off is a fund-raiser for the Disciples Women’s Ministry and the charitable work that they do in the community.

If you want to enter your chili, let us know by January 19.  Bring your crock pot of hot chili to the church kitchen before 11 a.m. the morning of the cook-off and check it in with one of the assistants accepting and labeling chili.

Be sure and give your chili a name as that is always fun.  Some previous winning reds have included “Two Kick Chili,” “Chili, Chili, Bang, Bang” and “Get You Some.”

While everyone will get to sample a variety of chili recipes and condiments, a panel of three judges will taste the entries and determine the winner based on criteria set by the International Chili Society.  A second prize will be given for “Most Creative Chili Concoction.”

Prizes include hand-made aprons, seasonings from Penzy’s Spices, your picture in Bubblelife and of course, “bragging rights.”

When it comes to good fun and good food, everyone is a winner at Central’s Chili-Cook-off.  All are welcome.
