DALLAS  – The Arts Community Alliance (TACA) recently awarded a $9,000 grant to Lumedia Musicworks, supporting the Stories series and three short-film recording sessions produced by the early music nonprofit’s seasonal programming.

Dallas-based Lumedia, committed to showcasing and performing early music, received the funding as part of TACA’s third round of resiliency grants. The grants are designed to support Dallas-area arts groups demonstrating resiliency by creatively fulfilling their missions despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lumedia’s Stories series tells the stories of significant women in the arts. The 2021-22 season’s installments focus on Wilhelmine von Bayreuth (premiered Sept. 10 and showing through Sept. 30), Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz (debuting Dec. 3), Garsenda (coming Jan. 7), Claudia Sessa (arriving March 4) and Bella van Zuylen (scheduled for May 6).

Lumedia, which has created films set to early music since its founding in 2017, won awards for several of last season’s short films.

“We create content that’s both positive and uplifting with a hint of humor,” said Julianna Emanski of Frisco, Lumedia artistic director and a Grammy nominee. “The grant allows us to present our entertaining yet informative work.”

Lumedia’s members perform on historical reproductions of instruments from the baroque, renaissance and medieval periods at historical pitch. Lumedia's core team is highly trained in historically informed performance practices.
