Double feature: Lumedia Musicworks presents a countertenor Feb. 23 and a violinist Feb. 24

To celebrate both Black History Month and the accomplishments of young Americans specializing in early music, Lumedia Musicworks presents the final two performances of its Four-Course Concert Series at noon Central time Tuesday, Feb. 23, and noon Central time Wednesday, Feb. 24.

The Feb. 23 online concert features countertenor Patrick Dailey and lutenist Francis Perry. The Nashville, Tenn., duo will perform selections from renaissance composer John Dowland, as well as American folksongs and spirituals by contemporary composers Roland Hayes and John W. Work.

The next day, Feb. 24, modern violinist Anyango Yarbo-Davenport of Bogotá, Columbia, performs with pianist Jinson Kim. Selections range from J.S. Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven to American composer Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson.

The 20-minute concerts are offered at no charge. Register at https://www.lumediamusicworks.com/fourcourse.

Dallas-based nonprofit Lumedia Musicworks is dedicated to sharing and performing music composed before 1750.

“Baroque music is beautiful and powerful, and these concerts showcase the musical talents and versatility of some of the best singers and instrumentalists in the field,” said Julianna Emanski of Frisco, Lumedia’s artistic director.

Yarbo-Davenport was born and raised in Munich and is the daughter of African American soprano Africa Yarbo-Davenport and the late Austrian conductor Hans Peter Jillich. A sought-after soloist and collaborator, she regularly performs in venues such as Carnegie Hall and Munich Philharmonic.

Dailey, on the faculty of the music department at Tennessee State University, has performed with Opera New Jersey, Opera Ebony and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Their performances will remain available on Lumedia’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/LumediaMworks and its YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/lumediaMusicworks. Those who missed baroque trumpeter Justin Bland’s concert Feb. 3 and violist Yvonne Smith’s performance Feb. 10 will find them there.
