The Texas Rangers lost in the World Series (again), the Dallas Cowboys are underachieving (again) and the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks are locked out by the NBA. So that leaves the Dallas Stars, who have taken a backseat to Dallas' three other professional team ever since their Stanley Cup win in 1999.

But, many sports fans who are just now tuning into the Stars would be surprised to learn that they're leading the division and are tied for first in the conference. The Stars are 8-3 and are tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the most victories so far this season.

Defending Big D, blog by and for Dallas Stars fans, is hosting its first watching party of the season on Saturday, November 15 at Frankie's Bar in Uptown. Guests can enjoy some good food, drinks and friends while the Stars take on the Detroit Red Wings. The game starts at 6:00 p.m. but Defending Big D recommends getting there an hour early.
