In just over two weeks on Sunday, November 6, the Cathedral of Hope in Uptown will be celebrating the one-year anniversary of the completion of their Interfaith Peace Chapel. The chapel, designed by American architect Phillip Johnson, seats 175 and serves a congregation that is primarily gay and lesbian.

Johnson was among the most influential architects of the 20th century with multiple famous buildings on his resume. Among them are the Glass House (1949) in Connecticut and Amon Carter Museum (1961) in Fort Worth. But, he considered the Interfaith Peace Chapel his finest project and the one he had waited his whole life to build.

In fact, Johnson once said, “It will be my memorial,” according to a 2005 story in the Dallas Morning News. Johnson passed away in 2005.

To celebrate the one-year reunion, the church has invited Dallas-musician Gary Lynn Floyd to perform with benefits going to the Interfaith Peace Chapel. After his concert, there will be a meet-and-greet reception to celebrate Floyd’s new CD. The event will be from 6:30 p.m. till 9:00 p.m.

Tickets can be bought online for $20 or for $25 at the door on the day of the event.
