First-Ever Katy Trail Invitational Lands Troy Aikman And Jason Garrett As Co-Chairs - March 2, 2015

Dallas Cowboys legend and Hall of Famer Troy Aikman can often be found on the Katy Trail for his routine runs, but on March 2, he and Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett will team up to serve as honorary co-chairs for the first-ever Katy Trail Ice House Invitational, presented by ISN. Proceeds from the golf tournament will benefit Friends of the Katy Trail, the nonprofit organization responsible for trail maintenance and improvements.

Plans for the inaugural tourney, which will be held at Gleneagles Country Club on Texas Independence Day, were recently unveiled at the popular Katy Trail Ice House.  Event chair Buddy Cramer, who co-owns the Katy Trail Ice House, said they are seeking sponsorships at all levels.  Foursomes are available now for $2,000 each.

“The Katy Trail is in partnership with the City of Dallas, which owns the property; however, it is the Friends of the Katy Trail that raises over $700,000 per year for maintenance and management to keep the trail in peak condition,” said Cramer. “If you care about the Katy Trail, we encourage you to tee up with us on March 2.”

Cramer adds that because they expect an early sell-out, the best way to guarantee a spot is through sponsorship, which includes benefits such as the invitation-only Sunday Night Pre-Party on March 1 at the Katy Trail Ice House. Sponsorship options are available for purchase at www.ktihinvitational.com.

In addition to presenting sponsor ISN, sponsors to date include Veritex Bank, Greenway Investment Company, Andrews Distributing, PegasusAblon, Highland Park Village, and Ralston Outdoor. Fay+Sawers Productions is producing the tournament.

The money raised will go toward lighting the popular Trail, adding trees and blooming plants, watering and maintaining the Trail to keep it beautiful, increasing the number of drinking fountains and hiring more off-duty police bike patrols.

The Katy Trail is the crucial centerpiece of the region's planned network of bike trails.  Its 3.5-mile path runs through the Uptown and Oak Lawn areas of Dallas, following the path of the old Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, which was known as MKT or the Katy. The Trail features a landscaped pedestrian, inline skating and bicycle trail system that currently travels from the American Airlines Center in Victory Park to Airline Drive.  Next to the concrete path is a soft recycled-rubber track built parallel for runners. The Friends of the Katy Trail has developed a Master Plan, which will eventually connect to the Trinity Strand Trail to the southwest and to the White Rock Trail to the northeast.

The Invitational’ s executive committee members are Chris Carrie, Jimmie Fell, David Harrison, Ben Ralston and Carlos Reyes.

Gleneagles Country Club is located at 5401 W. Park Blvd. in Plano. The Katy Trail Ice House Invitational is a 501(c)(3) public charity.  For more information, please contact Icee Strain at icee@faysawers.com
