The Cathedral of Hope in Dallas will be celebrating its fifth anniversary as a United Church of Christ congregation by having a special guest preach at two services on Sunday.

Geoffrey A. Black, the general minister and president of the United Church of Christ, will be giving a sermon at the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. church services on Feb. 5 at the Cathedral of Hope.

The Cathedral of Hope in Dallas officially became a member of the United Church of Christ on Feb. 4, 2007 and is now the fourth largest congregation of the denomination.

"The relationship between Cathedral of Hope and the UCC has been great for both the congregation and the larger church," said Jo Hudson, a senior pastor at the Cathedral of Hope.

Another special fifth-anniversary event for the Cathedral of Hope will be hosted in July when the church will present the annual Hero of Hope award to William. R. Johnson who is the vice president for member relations with the UCC Council for Health and Human Service Ministries and first openly gay minister to be ordained by a mainline church in the United States.
