With the city of Dallas experiencing a major burst in population it is dealing with its growing pains in a very progressive way.  The city in North Texas has been described as the “apartment building capital of the country” with more than 34,000 new apartment rentals already in the making.  According to the Dallas Morning News,

“With our population growing at a rate of almost 130,000 a year, that’s as if everyone in Topeka, Kan., showed up annually hunting for a place to stay. We need those apartments.”

As the government works to position itself for another year of new people relocating to this vibrant North Texas city, it’s got many wondering what’s going on in Dallas that is attracting so many? The truth is that Dallas is a city that has come into its own and has a lot to offer its new residents.

Employment Opportunities

According to the BBC, Dallas recently made it to the list of the 10 fastest growing cities in the country.  Part of the reason for this population boom is the numerous employment opportunities that are available to its residents.  With Dallas being home to many Fortune 500 companies, major oil and gas industries, and countless corporate headquarters based in the city, the potential for jobs is major. And with the Naval Air Station just seven miles away in nearby Fort Worth, residents can look forward to a strong economy and job security in their future.

It’s More Affordable

Dallas is listed as the most affordable major metropolitan city to live in within the United States. With a median household income of nearly $48,000 it shows that the city has built up a pretty healthy economy. Financial experts say that its rate of inflation is relatively stable compared to other cities. According to Lanny Baker, president and CEO of Zip Realty, Inc.

“My sense is that the economy in Dallas is healthier today than it’s been for a while.  That hasn’t yet transitioned into higher housing values.”

So, once residents have found gainful employment and are ready to draw a regular paycheck, those dollars they earn are able to stretch a lot further than the same dollar in other cities.

Another reason why Dallas is strong is because it’s in Texas, one of only seven states in the nation that do not impose a state income tax on its residents. So, those percentages of money that you would normally give to your state government you can choose to keep in your pocket, put in a savings account, or start a college fund for your kids.  Whatever you decide to do, it’s yours to keep.

The New Cowboy

Texas in general is going through a rebirth and while you’ll still see the traditional looking cowboy strolling the streets of Dallas, there is a new generation of cowboys on the horizon.  The younger generation is keen on living a simpler lifestyle and not struggling to reach the top of the ladder any more.  They don’t care if they can’t become a major executive but are content to live in more modest housing, middle class incomes, and have just learned to enjoy their lives just as it is without the constant reach for things they don’t have. This more laid back view of life has attracted many young people who have been turned off by the constant struggle for wealth of previous generations.  They are cool, calm, collected, and well put together.

The Little Moves

Of course, there are countless reports of large corporations like Toyota and other major corporations picking up and relocating to the Dallas/Fort Worth area but that is only a part of the picture.  Even smaller companies are seeing the value of relocation to Dallas from other places across the nation. These smaller companies are bringing several generations of their families along with their businesses and each one is contributing a small amount to the strength of the city’s economy. This major influx helps boost the city’s resources in a number of ways.  Consider the comments made in D Magazine,

“It’s the undercurrent of this enormous migration into our market. We’re certainly seeing it at the higher end. And as those people bring their companies, they bring a lot of rank and file. Then they hire when they get here. So it’s just great for our market on a million different levels.”

Even those quiet little transitions from smaller, lesser known industries have proven to be beneficial for many who choose to live in Dallas.

Climate

While there may be many reasons to pick up and move most people do not uproot their entire lives and relocate to another city because of the weather.  However, if other factors in the city are appealing enough, the weather could very well be the one thing that can push your decision one way or another.  And Dallas’ subtropical climate can be very appealing for many especially in you’re planning to relocate from a colder climate. If you’re tired of shoveling snow for months at a time or scraping ice off your windshield before you start off for work, the warmer climate of Dallas may be your ideal solution.

It’s true, you’ll get quite toasty in the summer time but the winters will more than make up for it. With the average temperatures falling only as low as the 50s snow in your life will be relegated to a place you visit and not a part of your life.  So, if you’re at that point where the only place you want to see snow is on a postcard you can be relatively assured that Dallas is the place you want to be.  Snow is not allowed within the city limits.

The choice to relocate to Dallas can be a very rewarding one.  It is the key to a higher quality of life with a low cost of living factor so that you can stretch your dollar just a bit further.  Finding a good place to rent in Dallas, like 4343 at the Parkway Apartment Homes, can be a smart move for anyone who’s planning on relocating there.
