Brunettes celebrate last year's win with a donation to the Alzheimer's Association for $250,000.

Powder-puff football may sound ridiculous, but for the ladies of the annual Blondes vs. Brunettes game, it's a serious competition. The Aug. 11 match, which pits flaxen-haired gals their against auburn-maned counterparts, is for much more than bragging rights — it's for the fight against Alzheimers.

Both blondes and brunettes will take to the Cotton Bowl for an epic game of flag football to raise money for the Greater Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimers Association. Sponsored by Bud Light, the event will feature special guests such as state Rep. Dan Branch and Ebby Halliday CEO Mary Frances Burleson.

In fact, several competitors have family and friends they are taking to the field for in the fight against the disease that kills more Americans than diabetes. They are raising money and awareness through the game, which is in its fifth year.

“My mom was 50 when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I was only 12. After a 10 year battle, she lost her life to this horrible disease," Brunette Team rookie Erin Antoville said. "I don't want any family to experience what I went through. I'm so proud to be a part of this amazing group of men and women who dedicate so much of their time to help us find a cure. The money and awareness raised helps so many families not only in North Texas, but around the world as we come closer to finding a cure.”

If you think it's too late to support these women and this cause, you couldn't be more wrong. Buy tickets and make donations at bvbdallas.org. Organizers are hoping to raise $275,000 for the Alzheimers Association, and are close to their goal at more than $208,000.
