Now that the weather is nice I’ve found myself exploring the more outdoor friendly Dallas opportunities. I was introduced to the Katy Trail when I moved here, but the colder weather killed my desire to be fit and jog outside. Now that the weather is nice I’ve come to enjoy being able to run on the Katy Trail and see the Dallas skyline and the beautiful neighborhoods.
One addition to the Katy Trail is the Ice House. I had read months ago that they had been working on this bar and I thought how odd, a bar on a trail, it could work. So I thought I would check it out this weekend since it just opened.
I entered on the trail side since I don’t live far from it, so for you Uptown dwellers take a nice walk with friends on the Katy Trail to go get some drinks. It is a great concept and is going to be packed in the Spring and Summer months. Outside they had more than enough picnic tables and inside it had an open bar feel and even with a big crowd there Saturday night it didn’t feel too overwhelming.
One disappointment was the lack of these 50 somewhat beers they are supposed to have. I’m sure this was a soft opening so of course it was more or less a introduction to what will come, but once they have their beer selections this bar is going to be a hit. They were well staffed with servers all around always checking up on you and your drink. They also offer food, I didn’t order anything but when the loaded fries passed my sight I couldn’t help but stare at them, they looked pretty unbelievable.
Over all I would recomend this place to anyone and will be posting up at this bar this summer. It’s laid back, easy to get to and if you enjoy the outdoors you will love this place. I do now know that I won’t be running by the Ice House on the Katy Trail anymore because I don’t want bar goers to see me panting and sweating as a try to get in shape for summer. Looks like I will be running in the other direction.
