Watercolor Batik Workshop with Lynda Kingsley!
Two day workshop, Friday, July 14 from 6pm to 8:30pm and Saturday, July 15 from 10am to 2pm. $95 tuition plus student needs to bring $15 for their materials.
In this workshop, students will learn an easy method to create works of art in a simplistic watercolor style adding wax and paint to create organic crazing marks so typical of batik!
Because Lynda’s designs will be simple, these batiks will be easy to achieve. Watercolor experience always helps, but none is necessary for this workshop!
Friday night students will create 3 small batik pieces on 3 different Asian papers. The class will paint these “littles” as a group together so that any questions are quickly answered. This will give practice and offer the student a sampling of these handmade papers.
Saturday, students will come back to paint and complete a larger piece…a vase of Sunflowers or a grouping of Iris. The student will be able to trace the design OR if students have experience, they can bring their own design to complete.
Lynda will provide the handmade Asian papers, waxes, wax brushes and irons to remove the wax. Then media like water soluble crayons and pastels will be provided to finish any details.
Students need to bring two watercolor brushes. First, a round 4-12 in size and a flat 1/2-1 (synthetic is best) and some watercolors. If you do not have these, contact Lynda to bring some. NO need to go out and purchase AND please bring one permanent marker like a thin Sharpie - black, dark gray, purple or brown.
