Park Cities resident Kathy Collins, Owner of Kinder Kritter, Inc. Dog Daycare Center

Kinder Kritter, Inc. owned by Kathy Collins, longtime Park Cities resident, has been in quarantine like the rest of us. As of Monday, May 4, the shop at 8928 Garland Road, Dallas, Texas 75218, has reopened to provide curbside dropoff and pick-up service for boarding, daycare, and grooming.

“Our decision to temporarily close has been tough on all of us, but we’re committed to making this re-opening a safe experience for all our clients and furry friends,” Kathy Collins, owner said. “We stayed open for two weeks to serve those working in the medical and first-responder teams, but we finally made the decision to close in March for the safety of our staff.”

Collins applied for small business payroll funding, but has not yet received word. She has continued to pay staff thanks partially to a bank loan and personal funding.

“Several of our loyal clients have donated money -- one actually gave us $1,500 to keep us going. Our staff are all like family to us. Our Manger, Cristina Raslan, has been with us 10 years,” she said. "We plan to utilize every required protocol for their safety."

Although the lobby will be closed, clients can arrange to drop off or pick up pets by calling 214-321-3939 or schedule an appointment online at www.kinderkritter.net.

Music Creation by Igor Samsonov on View at the Museum of Biblical Art, Beginning April 7. Reception from 3-5 pm. Photo by David Salomon.

The Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas, Texas is proud to present Beauty in Passion; a grand exhibition of thirty-five paintings by Russian artist Igor Samsonov. Born in 1963, he studied at the famous Ilya Repin Leningrad Institute for Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. His passion permeates every one of his canvases. Audiences can relate to the beauty portrayed in Samsonov’s artwork as his paintings are pictorial narratives or stories. They are humanity’s stories expressed in his contemporary approach to Classical Realism, delivered with vivid compositions and dazzling colors.

The morals that the paintings teach are widespread, pervasive and universal. Each work of art requires consideration and concentration. The Bible is a primary source for many of the Samsonov lessons. Art Historian and Curator Scott Peck: “The art work is like a magical and enchanted kind of mirror where one can better understand and see one’s self. We seem so desperate for a moral compass today and the artist offers us direction. Samsonov is like a modern day Aesop, telling us stories with lessons that are so desperately needed today.” Come to see the passion of Artist Igor Samsonov and experience his incredible contemporary masterpieces.

Igor Samsonov Biography

Igor Samsonov was born in Voronezh, Russia, on January 7, 1963. He began drawing at a very early age and his parents encouraged his pursuits.  However at this time in the Soviet Union, it was very difficult to make a sustainable living as an artist. Samsonov ultimately decided on a career in mathematics and earned the equivalent of a Master’s degree from Voronezh State University. He accepted a job with the Institute of Research, but found himself more and more drawn back to art, especially after viewing some of Van Gogh’s paintings at the Hermitage Museum in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg).  He moved to Leningrad, where he studied at the Ilya Repin Leningrad Institute for Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. He was particularly influenced by his tutor Oleg Eremeev, who advocated not only for technical excellence, but for a painting that had “the artist’s emotional signature.” After graduating from the Repin Academy, Samsonov began his career painting mostly portraits. After a time, however, he felt compelled to create “pure art”, or a type of art that was unique to him and not based on others’ opinions’ or the current market. Samsonov’s work is extremely modern, yet remains classical. He draws from Van Gogh and Matisse in his use of color and Vermeer in his use of light. His paintings are rich with symbolism and tell stories—some well-known, others created by Samsonov himself. He is particularly interested in the themes of transformation and power. For more information about Samsonov and the stories behind his paintings, please reference “Igor Samsonov: Painter and Passionate Visionary” by David Salomon.

About Voices of Change

Voices of Change is the Southwest’s premiere professional chamber music ensemble dedicated to the performance of the music of our time. Now in its 41st year, Voices of Change fills a unique niche in the music world by performing small ensemble works by 20th and 21st century composers, encouraging and preserving the impulse of musical creativity and imagination.

Founded in 1974 by pianist Jo Boatright and clarinetist Ross Powell, Voices of Change is one of the longest-lived and most distinguished new music ensembles in the United States. In 1999, Voices of Change was a finalist for the prestigious Grammy Award for Best Performance by a Small Classical Ensemble. The CD, Voces Americanas, features works of five living composers of Hispanic descent. The Grammy nomination is a first for any Dallas/Fort Worth area chamber music ensemble. Voices of Change has been awarded the annual ASCAP Award for Adventuresome Programming an unprecedented five times and has recorded LPs and CDs on the CRI, Crystal, Innova, Albany, Centaur, and Redwood labels. The artists are first-tier professional musicians playing music written by well-known and up-and-coming professional composers. About Buchanan Architecture

Founded in 1992, Buchanan Architecture is a full-service, multi-disciplinary architectural design firm with consistent local, regional and national recognition for design and restoration excellence. At Buchanan Architecture, we view the practice of architecture as a service profession.  We listen closely to our clients, and deliver design solutions specific to each client’s unique needs and goals. We approach each project, large or small, as a distinct design challenge. With every new challenge is an opportunity for us to apply our planning and design expertise.  Buchanan Architecture provides a comprehensive analysis of each project to produce a high quality, cost-effective design solution.

Design Philosophy

Our philosophy centers on the importance of structure as a catalyst from which sculptural forms emerge and combine to create dynamic, ordered spaces.  The foundation of our design approach is geometry, although there is not an insistence upon geometric purity in the work.  Instead, geometry forms a framework in which more poetic ideas and elements can be explored.  The source for geometric discipline may change with each project, but geometry remains the genesis of the compositional and organizational thinking.  Conceptual, sculptural, or gestured responses to the geometric framework are very subtle and nuanced.  We embrace simple solutions to complex problems.  We see beauty in the subtle gestures of light and form.  We emphasize meticulous detailing and thoughtful assemblage in order to merge structural and geometric elements into integrated compositions.  Refining a design is as important as conceiving one.  As a result, we find strength from simplicity and restraint.  Our work exhibits a continuous understanding of and an appreciation for the art of design and the craft of construction, from initial conceptual diagrams to final built forms.

The Museum of Biblical Art had a record crowd at their 8 x 8 art exhibition and auction fundraiser. Over 450 guests attended the “8x8 Art Exhibition and Auction” at the Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas last Wednesday to bid on miniature works of fine art, and support the museum’s educational programs.

Scott Peck, Museum Curator and Director, pronounced the evening a great success. "The event was a near  sellout of over 140 works of art,” said Peck. Upon arrival, guests were photographed by the National Center for Jewish Art Gallery and then directed to the Caruth Gallery to receive their bid packets and on to the Ballroom for spirited bidding, with many artists in attendance.

Guests also enjoyed a barbecue buffet by Big Al’s Smokehouse BBQ, in keeping with the Texas-casual theme, music in the Atrium by the Lucky Pierres, a wine pull in the Northeast Gallery, and lovely floral arrangements from Gardenia Event Décor

Gathering under a large digital clock that counted down the minutes to the auction close, Scott Peck welcomed everyone and thanked Co-Chairs Maria Valentina Sheets and Rachel Wimpey, and the event committee and sponsors who made the evening possible. “This annual event raises funds for all our educational programs throughout the year – field trips, Summer Art Camp for Kids, Heroes of History Field Trips, and special workshops we offer for both kids and adults,” said Peck.

The highlight of the evening was a live painting demonstration of large-scale works by Dallas artist Fred Villanueva whose Ash Studios was recently ranked “Best Gallery in Dallas” by D Magazine. Another highlight was the Celebrity Art Gallery, created by iconic comedian Ruth Buzzi and her actor/artist husband Kent Perkins. Paintings and mixed media works were submitted by Emmy-nominated actress and comedian Lily Tomlin, the legendary Carol Burnett, as well as JoAnne Worley and country singing legend Kris Kristofferson.

Guests included Regina Bruce, Kim Rozell, Jeanette Korab, Doug Box, Shayema Rahim, Paulette Martsolf, Jim Lively, Susan Schmidt, Patti Sparkman, Laura Sparkman, George Tobolowsky,  Leo Crowley, J. D. Miller, Jeffrey Brosk, Johannes Boekhoudt, Michele Struss, Brad Abrams and Donald Zale.

Eight by eight was created seven years ago by Jeff Levine who based it on the number 8 which is a symbol for the Hebrew word for life, which is Chai. “So,” says Levine, “8 x 8 is a double portion of life or a doubly-blessed life.”

ABOUT THE MUSEUM OF BIBLICAL ART

The Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas, Texas is unlike any museum in the world.  It has a simple mission:  to display art with a Biblical theme.  It is one of the few museums in the country that is devoted to Biblical themes.  It was established in 1966 and named the Museum of Biblical Art in 1999.  Nothing of its size exists in the United States, making it a treasure trove for art enthusiasts. Diverse types of art are exhibited including bronze sculpture installations, drawings, fine prints, and oil paintings. Specialized galleries have been created for Biblical Archaeology, Jewish Art, Religious Architecture, Israeli Art, Women’s Art, African American Art and Hispanic Art.

The Museum is a cultural crossroads, utilizing art for tolerance and understanding reflected in the various archaeological exhibits and decorative art from Israel and the Holy Land. The new National Center for Jewish Art is dedicated to Jewish and Israeli artists, artifacts and ceremonial art with works by George Tobolowsky, Jacques Lipchitz, Menashe Kadishman, Tobi Kahn, Yigal Ozeri, and Goeffrey Laurence.

The MBA's vision encompasses the classical arts with a call to beauty which emphasizes Biblical figurative art illustrating the narratives of the Bible, and a call to the study of classical Greco-Roman art, archaeology and architecture.

Museum featured artists Include:  John Singer Sargent, Marc Chagall, Ben Shahn, Michelangelo, Paolo Veronese, Francesco Guardi, Agam, Kathe Köllwitz, Albert Pinkham Ryder, Emil Nolde, James Tissot, Oskar Kokoschka, Bernard Buffet, Andy Warhol, Everett Shinn, John Marin, and many more.

His work combines images with abstract and figurative styles and can be found in galleries and collections all over the world.
Put on your boots and “country chic” and head to the Museum to bid on miniature works of fine art measuring 8" x 8" while supporting the Museum’s educational programs and exhibits.
Scott Peck, Museum Curator and Director said, "The 8 x 8 event, founded six years ago by Jeff Levine, ModernDallas, draws over 100 gallery-quality artist submissions from all over the world. Each year we expand our gallery representation-the quality just keeps getting better every year."

Guests will enjoy a Texas-casual theme with Big Al's smokehouse BBQ, live music by Lucky Pierres, and a "Wine Pull." The annual event raises funds for the Museum's educational programs throughout the year -- Summer Art Camp for Kids, Heroes of History Field Trips, and specialty workshops for youth and adults.
Maria Valentina Sheets, Conservator and Artist, and Rachel Wimpey, Artist and Owner of Willow Brush Studio, Tulsa, Oklahoma, are this year's co-chairs for the event. "The auction will include oil and acrylic paintings, art glass, metal sclplture, photography, graphite drawing and mixed media with most starting bids near $100. Larger works by Alvar Sunol, George Tobolowsky, Johannes Boekhoudt, Henriette Milan, Helen Zarin, Dr. Seuss, may start at $3,000-5,000," Sheets said.
Another highlight of the evening is the Celebrity Art Gallery, created by iconic comedian Ruth Buzzi and her actor/artist husband Kent Perkins. Paintings and mixed media works were submitted by Emmy-nominated actress and comedian Lily Tomlin, the legendary Carol Burnett, as well as country singing legend Kris Kristofferson.
Eight by eight was created six years ago by Jeff Levine who based it on the number 8 which is a symbol for the Hebrew word for life, which is Chai. "So, says Levine, "8 x 8 is a double portion of life or a doubly-blessed life. When I developed the idea of "8 x 8", said Levine, "I couldn't have picked a better, warmer place to have it when I walked into this museum. Thanks to all of you for helping us share its programs with deserving kids and art-loving adults."
ABOUT THE MUSEUM OF BIBLICAL ART
The Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas, Texas is unlike any museum in the world. It has a simple mission: to display art with a Biblical theme. It is the only museum in the country completely devoted to Biblical themes. Established in 1966 and re-named the Museum of Biblical Art in 2008, nothing like it exists in the United States--making it a treasure trove for art enthusiasts.
The new National Center for Jewish Art is dedicated to Jewish and Israeli artists, artifacts and ceremonial art. Works by George Tobolowsky, Jacques Lipchitz, Menashe Kadishman, Tobi Kahn, Yigal Ozeri, and Goeffrey Laurence. In 2015, the Mosaic Institute was also co-founded by Scott Peck and Jamie Weisbrod—bring annual international mosaic exhibits and highlighting elements of Jewish culture.
