Put on your boots and “country chic” and head to the “8x8 Art Exhibition and Auction” at the Museum of Biblical Art, 7500 Park Lane, Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, 7:00-10:00 p.m. and bid on miniature works of fine art while supporting the Museum’s educational programs and exhibits.
Scott Peck, Museum Curator and Director, said, "The event, founded six years ago by Jeff Levine, ModernDallas, draws over 100 gallery-quality artist submissions from all over the world. Each year we expand our gallery representation-the quality just keeps getting better every year."
A LIVE painting demonstration will be offered by Fred Villanueva of Ash Studios, a monumental scale social practice art project in Dallas, recently ranked "Best Studio in Dallas" by D Magazine. Villanueva creates large-scale paintings, sculptures and time-based installations. His work combines images with abstract and figurative styles and can be found in galleries and collections all over the world.
Guests will enjoy a Texas-casual theme with Big Al's smokehouse BBQ, live music by Lucky Pierres, and a "Wine Pull." The annual event raises funds for the Museum's educational programs throughout the year -- Summer Art Camp for Kids, Heroes of History Field Trips, and specialty workshops for youth and adults.
Maria Valentina Sheets, Conservator and Artist, and Rachel Wimpey, Artist and Owner of Willow Brush Studio, Tulsa, Oklahoma, are this year's co-chairs for the event. "The auction will include oil and acrylic paintings, art glass, metal sclplture, photography, graphite drawing and mised media with most starting bids near $100. Larger works by Alvar Sunol, George Tobolowsky, Johannes Boekhoudt, Henriette Milan, Helen Zarin, Dr. Seuss, may start at $3,000-5,000," Sheets said.
Another highlight of the evening is the Celebrity Art Gallery, created by iconic comedian Ruth Buzzi and her actor/artist husband Kent Perkins. Paintings and mixed media works were submitted by Emmy-nominated actress and comedian Lily Tomlin, the legendary Carol Burnett, as well as country singing legend Kris Kristofferson.Another highlight of the evening is the Celebrity Art Gallery, created by iconic comedian Ruth Buzzi and her actor/artist husband Kent Perkins. Eight by eight was created six years ago by Jeff Levine who based it on the number 8 which is a symbol for the Hebrew word for life, which is Chai. "So, says Levine, "8 x 8 is a double portion of life or a doubly-blessed life. When I developed the idea of "8 x 8", said Levine, "I couldn't have picked a better, warmer place to have it when I walked into this museum. Thanks to all of you for helping us share its programs with deserving kids and art-loving adults."

The Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas, Texas is unlike any museum in the world. It has a simple mission: to display art with a Biblical theme. It is the only museum in the country completely devoted to Biblical themes. The MBA's vision encompasses the classical arts with a call to beauty which emphasizes the Biblical figurative art illustrating the narratives of the Bible, and a call to the study of classical Greco-Roman art, archaeology and architecture.
