Launched in 2016 by the Sammons Center for the Arts as a pilot program, the Sammons Discovery concert series has proven to be a successful draw for those seeking unique artists, music and performance experiences. Acclaimed guitarist Andy Timmons kicks off the 2019 season on Friday, February 15, 8:00 p.m., with a two-set performance featuring very different styles.
Timmons is joined in the first set by fellow guitarist Nick Knirk for a lesson in guitar history. The duo performs music from artists as varied as Django Reinhardt and The Ventures to Jeff Beck and Queen. Timmons goes solo in the second set for his rendition of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
As guitarist for pop-metal band Danger Danger, Timmons toured the world opening for Kiss and Alice Cooper, sold over a million records worldwide, and had two #1 videos on MTV. He performed or recorded with artists such as Simon Phillips, Olivia Newton-Johnson, Paula Abdul, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Eric Johnson. Timmons also amassed a discography that includes seven solo releases that range from blazing guitar instrumentals to blues and even a Beatles/Elvis Costello-inspired collection of pop tunes.
Admission to Sammons Discovery is $40 per person and includes valet parking, appetizers, beverages and the concert. Sammons Jazz and Cabaret members receive a $5 per person discount; annual memberships begin at $35. All major credit cards are accepted.
