Voters in Grand Prairie are being urged to support the GPISD Tax Ratification Election (TRE) and Bond Package on the upcoming ballot in November.

“Grand Prairie students – all 29,000 of them – will benefit greatly if the bond package is passed,” said Steve Habgood, president of MetroTex Association of Realtors. “Our Realtors live in the communities we serve and we all agree that a healthy school system is one of the best things a community can offer its residents.”

The TRE and Bond Election will allow GPISD to access more state funds to complete much –needed renovations to existing schools and build new schools. The Bond package will also decrease costs and save the district $100M over the life of the bonds.

Using newly accessible state funds, the TRE will provide more funds for a number of much –needed improvements, including teacher pay, technology, and early childhood education. The bond election will also provide funds to update aging and outdated buildings, many of which were built between 40 and 60 years ago.

For the average homeowner in Grand Prairie, the new bond package amounts to about $1 per month in school taxes. Seniors over the age of 65 will not be assessed this tax if they are taking the senior homestead exemption.

Early voting will take place from October 19 – 30 at Crosswinds High School with Election Day on November 3. Voters can find out more by visiting http://www.gpisd.org/2015TRE-Bond

MetroTex Realtors also endorse Prop 1 to increase the homestead exemption from $15,000 to $25,000 and Prop 7 which creates a dedicated fund for Texas infrastructure without increasing taxes.
