Just in time for those New Year’s resolutions to “get fit,” the Jewish Community Center of Dallas (The J) is introducing its new, free specialty class series “Fitness in F Flat,” beginning January 9. These unique workouts feature a live violinist performing during different exercise classes. Based on scientific studies showing that working out to live instruments can heighten the physical outcome, and deepen the inward focus of an individual’s workout. The J has partnered with Julliard School of Music trained violinist Richmond Punch to play live during Spinning, Zumba and Yoga classes. Drawing from a unique blend of genres, Mr. Punch will perform during the classes incorporating music styles ranging from hip hop and jazz to R&B and gospel.

“Everyone has working out and getting fit on the top of their mind in January,” said Terri Arends, The J’s Group Fitness Director. “We wanted to mix things up and add live music to our classes. It’s not only proven to help to shift one’s energy into high gear, it will be fun and inspirational to attendees whether they are
first-timers or returning members.”

All “Fitness in F Flat” classes will be held at The J at 7900 Northaven Road in Dallas. F Flat classes are free and open to both J members and non-members. The schedule is as follows:

  • Spinning – Friday, January 9 from 9 to 10 a.m. Led by Terri Arends.
  • Gentle Flow Yoga – Sunday, January 11 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Led by Debbi Levy.
  • Zumba – Sunday, January 18 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Led by Callie Banderas, Brett Stanley and Aida Ponce.
