Many Dallas neighborhoods have evolved with clear identities and personalities, while several flourished under the radar before getting noticed. Some retain their vibrancy; meanwhile others fade. What causes certain urban areas to endure? How has Dallas built connective infrastructure, developed mixed-use neighborhoods, and implemented citizen programs that enliven and populate urban neighborhoods? What else is on the horizon, and what might Dallas learn from other city successes?
These are some of the questions that will be explored in the this season’s final Panel Discussion presented by The Dallas Architecture Forum, “Creating Thriving Neighborhoods,” on Tuesday, April 28. This Panel, which will be moderated by Catherine Cuellar, Executive Director of the Dallas Arts District, will be held the evening before the opening of CNU 23, the Congress for New Urbanism’s national conference, to be held in Dallas-Fort Worth. The Panel will incorporate concepts and subject matter experts involved in the conference. Panelists are Lynn Richards, President of the Congress for New Urbanism; Jason Roberts, Founder of The Better Block; Arti Harchekar, Urban Design Officer for Townscape; Scott Bernstein, President of the Center for Neighborhood Technology, and Victor Dover, Principal of Dover, Kohl and Partners.
