RETREET Receives $10,000 Donation from ‘Reliant Gives’ Program

—Contribution Coincided with NRG Global Giving Day—

The Reliant Gives program awarded a $10,000 donation to Dallas-based nonprofit RETREET, an organization that volunteers to replant communities in the wake of disaster, thereby redefining the concept of disaster relief. The employee-nominated, community-chosen contribution marks the culmination of the new charitable-giving program from Reliant that puts the power of nonprofit advocacy in the hands of the public, letting people vote for the Texas charity they want to receive donations. The Reliant Gives program coincided with Reliant and NRG’s Global Giving Day, when hundreds of employees fan out across communities in Texas and 15 other states to provide volunteer services to nonprofit organizations.

The Dallas Association of Young Lawyers (DAYL) 2015 Leadership Class will host the inaugural Dallas Bridge Bash to benefit Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region’s (CISDR) Ketchup Saturday program. The event will be held on the Continental Avenue Bridge on Saturday, April 16 from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

“The decision made by the current Leadership Class to benefit Communities in Schools Dallas was an easy one,” said DAYL Leadership Class Member Neel Gonuguntla. “Not only does the Bridge Bash work to help our students, but it also brings the community together to admire the Dallas Skyline, its beautiful architecture and its amazing local talent.”

The Dallas Bridge Bash, chosen as the annual project by members of the DAYL 2015 Leadership Class, is the first of many that will focus on bridging the severe education gap that exists in Dallas County elementary schools. All proceeds will be donated to CISDR programs to aid in the continuation of its Ketchup Saturday programs, ensuring that underprivileged children are equipped to succeed in school and ultimately, in life.

“Ketchup Saturday is an integral part of the academic advancement of children within the local campuses and districts we serve” said CISDR CEO and President Dr. Judith Allen-Bazemore.  “It was initially designed to offer a dynamic way for students to “catch up” in certain school subjects while increasing self-confidence and motivation to complete coursework and improve grades.  Keeping this project alive is important, and we are grateful to have the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers invest in CISDR!”

The 2016 inaugural Bridge Bash will host an array of food vendors including Urban Taco, Mr. Phil’s BBQ and catfish, Fadi’s Mediterranean Grill and the Community Beer Company. Additionally, performances by the Time Machine Band, American Idol’s Trevor Douglas, manintheraw and other local Dallas talent will take center stage during the event.
