Making waves in the interior design industry is Lindley Arthur Interiors, a boutique residential design firm located in the heart of Highland Park, specializing in new construction, remodels, room design, space planning and styling. Lindley Arthur Interiors provides a full-service, turnkey process for each client, from conception to installation, walking its clients through every step of the design process, helping to bring a vision to life.

Dallas native and Park Cities resident Lindley Whisenant Arthur spent a decade in public relations before she took a passionate leap of faith, turning her love for antiques and design into a successful interior design business. In 2008, she set up a shop in Antique Row on Lovers Lane in Dallas, and before long, her scope naturally expanded into interior design. Arthur now leads a well-respected team of industry innovators, including Nicole Groth and Callie Moroney.

Long-time friend and Park Cities resident Nicole Groth shared Lindley’s passion for art. Groth was exposed early on to great artists and became an artist herself, known for her whimsical use of both color and texture. The two quickly realized the need to join forces after Arthur used many of Groth’s original pieces in client projects. Newest addition to the team and recent University of Texas graduate Callie Moroney has a penchant for design that transpires in her everyday contact with clients.

“We fuse traditional and modern styles to make for uniquely fresh and beautiful spaces for our clients. Our team’s creative eye naturally transitions into our work in residential design,” said owner Lindley Arthur. “We are relationship-driven, and our experience and knowledge in the art of design is unparalleled, which is it was natural for me to take the work I was doing for family and friends and build a boutique interior design firm.”

Recent projects have included ranch estates, luxury lake-front homes, mountain retreats and private residences. The firm’s design philosophy is that a home should be a well-curated collection of old and new, ultimately resulting in a timeless interior that is livable and fun but with a fresh edge. With a passion for using antiques, pops of color, interesting fabric and modern art in their work, the team’s goal is to focus on functionality and practicality, without sacrificing beauty or comfort.

Every year, the most organized of holiday shoppers have a detailed list of what they are going to buy their family members, coworkers, friends, children’s teachers and significant others for the holidays. As appealing as this sounds, unfortunately, the rest of us are usually out running around doing last-minute shopping, hoping for that perfect gift idea to fall in our lap and solve the inevitable holiday shopping madness!

As much as 40% of the season’s sales happen in the 10 days before Christmas, according to the National Retail Federation. Some label waiting until the last second to figure out what to buy as procrastination, while others call it strategic. Either way, no judgement here!Whether you are gifting your boss a little “sussy” just in time for your annual review or you are trying to find a present for your child’s school teacher without adding to their collection of Starbucks gift cards, Half Price Books has something everyone on your list will enjoy.

Luckily, Half Price Books is already one step ahead of the “strategic last-minute shopper.” Throughout the year, its buyers curate a selection of new, bestselling books offered in all stores at 20% off the cover price. While we know when it comes to our readers, the term ‘one size fits all’ isn’t a viable option here, this best seller list is far from mainstream. Customers can choose from gothic-horror novels to a chilling case-study of a white supremacist to a refreshing story about choosing to live a life full of optimism.

If you are approaching your holiday list and find yourself a little hesitant about what will get your loved ones swooning, a Half Price Books gift card is the perfect alternative. Forget the ‘gift cards are impersonal’ nonsense because who doesn’t like having a reason to shop for themselves? The value of a gift card goes further at Half Price Books. In addition to offering its usual array of used books, new books, private-label merchandise and wholesale items, Half Price Books is upping its game this year by expanding its product offerings. This expansion of inventory will include more toys, accessories, board and card games, transportation themed toys, wearables, retro items, STEM sets, coffee mugs and other retail items, perfect for stocking stuffers or holiday gifting. Plus, customers receive a $5 gift card, redeemable in January, with every $25 gift card purchased.

For more than three decades, KidLinks, a nonprofit organization that provides healing, hope and happiness for children and families, recently launched its redesigned online platform, www.KidLinks.org. The redesigned website enables KidLinks to increase its Therapeutic Music Entertainment (TME) programs and allows its board-certified music therapists to provide in-depth music therapy resources for more children across the country.

In its history, continuous support from generous donors has enabled KidLinks’ musicians to perform in hospitals and special care centers, has funded university-level Music Therapy training and has provided free/low cost treatment programs for children in need. Today, KidLinks is able to reach all children through the power of media and song via its modernized online KidLinks platform, previously known as Hugworks Children’s Network (HCN), for times when they can’t be there in person. In order to appeal to every hospital partner, child and family, the revamped KidLinks platform is now more accessible and is mobile-friendly. Users will find the website to be brighter, more readable and fun when accessingTherapeutic Music Entertainment and clinical Music Therapy resources.

“I am proud to be a part of an organization thatserves patients in need who are looking for the highest quality of care but may not have the financial means to visit a large hospital or therapy center,” said KidLinks Executive Director Diana Crawford. “With the newly updated website, navigation will be simplified creating a more cohesive user experience. We will be more searchable, organized and better showcase our songbooks.”

KidLinks is also working with a variety of platforms including YouTube, iTunes and Spotify to distribute the animated videos and songs. Subjects include coping with loss or change, dealing with low self-esteem, how to express feelings, the importance of teamwork and friendship, providing comfort, growing and developing the imagination, motivation and encouragement, the environment, pets and animals, caring and kindness, restfulness and more.

KidLinks partners with hospitals as a resource to help each child and family feel and do their best, and the website includes a portal for each partner for patients to log into. Instead of waiting until their next visit, children across the country can now access the latest in secure, child-safe, engaging online media delivery, and enjoy inspiring original music and animated sing-along videos.  The redesigned website provides more information about KidLinks’ partnerships and the expanded services provided to partner organizations. A ‘Community of Practice’ tab serves as a hub for all things Music Therapy, including: articles, case studies, useful links, documents, thought pieces and Music Therapy FAQs. There is also a new section on the site dedicated to showcasing personal stories and client testimonials designed to unite the KidLinks community.

Early cheese traditions can still be seen in some of the classic old-world cheeses available today. Taste five of the most iconic cheese styles from around the world that started it all. All cheeses arrive in a beautiful wooden box with crackers for a globetrotting experience wherever you are.

Italian Treat - $70

As a nod to Cheesemonger Rich Rogers’ ancestor’s homeland, this box features two classic Italian cheeses: Parmigiano-Reggiano and Pecorino Romano. Scardello’s Parmigiano-Reggiano is hand made by Gianluca Bonati of Fulvi. Gianluca makes all of his wheels from an organically farmed herd and makes less than half the amount of Parmigiano-Reggiano than typical producers. Despite its name, most Pecorino Romano is made outside of the Roman countryside. Fulvi is one of the only operations still making this classic cheese about 20 miles north of Rome. Paired with handmade Italian style salami, crackers and high quality extra virgin olive oil, this box will transport you straight to the boot itself!

Best of Texas - $80

JDRF, the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, hosted its annual Cliff Harris JDRF Reunion Golf Classic at Dallas Athletic Club Monday, June 18, 2018. This year’s tournament commemorated Super Bowl XIII, where the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers battled at the Orange Bowl in Miami on January 21, 1979. In honor of this, JDRF arranged for Joe Greene, the Steelers’ defensive tackle in Super Bowl XIII and fellow Texas native, to attend the tournament. Over the course of Greene’s 13-year career, all of which was played with the Steelers, Greene was voted to 10 Pro Bowls and named the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year in both 1972 and 1974.

This year’s tournament ended the day full of friendly competition with lively clubhouse festivities, including a Q&A with Cliff Harrisand Joe Greene, a silent and live auction and an awards ceremony. The tournament raised more than $330,000 in support of JDRF’s mission to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes.

O.J. “Buddy” Harris, Cliff Harris’ father, was diagnosed with T1D at age 24. Because of this disease, Buddy was unable to conquer his dream of being a jet test pilot but he was able to cheer Cliff on in his first Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys. Shortly thereafter, diabetes took his vision, and he was unable to watch Cliff go on to play in another four Super Bowls. Bud is the reason Cliff is dedicated to JDRF’s mission, and it is passionate volunteers like Cliff who have helped JDRF achieve important milestones. Advances in type 1 diabetes research (T1D) are helping people live longer and with fewer complications.

This year’s tournament was a reunion celebration for many of the Super Bowl competitors and other NFL greats. Former NFL stars in attendance included: Donny Anderson,Roger Staubach, DD Lewis, Mel Renfro, Mike Renfro, Rayfield Wright, Lyle Blackwood, Norm Bulaich, Gary Hammond, Chad Hennings, Preston Pearson, Kurt Petersen andEverson Walls.Several other local figures joined in the fun, including: former wide receiver for the Ouachita Baptist Tigers and Ouachita Baptist Athletics Hall of Famer Doug Freeze, , former NBA Phoenix Suns Forward Ira Terrell,Actor Burton ‘Bubba’ Gilliam, former Texas Rangers pitcher Don Stanhouse, CBS Sports Analyst and former college coach, Houston Nutt, former Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs player, Jose Guzman, andOuachita Baptist University head basketball coach and former NBA player, Dennis Nutt.
