America SCORES Dallas is partnering with Molina Healthcare Texas to present two SCORES events, the 11th Annual Poetry Slam! and the 2015 Jamboree. SCORES, a national organization in 14 cities, has been in Dallas since 2003 and offers after-school soccer, literacy and service learning in urban Dallas Independent School District elementary schools.
“Molina Healthcare is pleased to partner with America SCORES Dallas for their upcoming events as they support our ongoing mission of serving individuals and families in need,” said Craig Bass, president of Molina Healthcare of Texas. “Both events will provide an incredible opportunity for us to give back and make a positive impact in the Dallas community.”
The Poetry Slam! features SCORES third through fifth graders reading and performing their original poems of self-expression. A panel of judges will select two students to travel to New York City in April to represent Dallas in the nationwide Poetry Slam! Students read their poems in the New York Stock Exchange earlier this year.
The Dallas Slam! event is scheduled for Wednesday, December 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cesar Chavez Learning Center Auditorium, 1710 North Carroll Ave, Dallas, and is free and open to the public. Activities include supper, goody bags for children, an appearance by Dr. Cleo, Molina Healthcare’s cat doctor mascot, and a drawing for a tablet.
The Jamboree, held each spring, is a round-robin soccer tournament. Students from SCORES schools play each other at a large stadium soccer field, an event which attracts more than 500 spectators. Molina will provide food, goody bags and more for participants.
“We are so pleased to have Molina Healthcare of Texas as a partner for these events,” Crystal Schober, Executive Director of America SCORES Dallas. “They can offer our children and families new opportunities and assist us in serving this population through enhanced events and community connections.”
