DESCRIPTION:The Dallas Architecture Forum\, a non-profit organization dedic
 ated to providing public education about architecture\, design\, and the u
 rban environment\, is presenting a special Lecture in partnership with the
  Dallas Museum of Art – Designing An Exhibition: Cartier and Islamic Art:
  In Search of Modernity \, on Thursday\, August 4\, 2022 at 7:00 pm in the

  Forum and the Dallas Museum of Art as they present Jaffer Kolb\, Founder
  of design firm New Affiliates and design collaborator on  Cartier and Isl
 amic Art: In Search of Modernity . Mr. Kolb will highlight the ways in whi
 ch he contributed to the exhibition\, which was designed by Diller Scofidi
 o and Renfro architects. He will focus on how Cartier was influenced by Is
 lamic architecture and art in designing the jewelry in the exhibit. Follow
 ing his presentation\, Mr. Kolb will join Sarah Schleuning\, curator of th
 e Cartier exhibition and Margot B. Perot Senior Curator of Decorative Arts
  and Design at the DMA for a brief conversation moderated by Kate Aoki\, A
 IA\, and Head of Exhibition Design at the DMA.  \n Jaffer KOLB \nJaffer Ko
 lb is Co-Founder of New Affiliates (N/A)\, an award-winning New York City
  based studio. Prior to founding N/A\, Jaffer Kolb worked as a designer in
  New York\, Chicago and Los Angeles for a range of international studios.
  He currently teaches at both Yale’s School of Architecture and Columbia’s
  GSAPP. He worked on the 13th Venice Architecture Biennial under David Chi
 pperfield and was the US editor for  Architectural Review . Kolb holds a M
 aster of Architecture from Princeton University\, a Master of Urban Planni
 ng from the London School of Economics\, and a Bachelor of Arts in Film St
 udies from Wesleyan University. \nIn 2018 N/A studio was named "Next Progr
 essives" by  Architect Magazine  and was featured in the  Architects Newsp
 aper Interior's Top 50 list in 2018 and 2019. In Spring 2020\, N/A was awa
 rded the League Prize by the Architectural League of New York and the New
  Practices Award by the American Institute of Architects. Kolb worked with
  Diller Scofidio & Renfro in their design concepts for the Cartier exhibit
 ion.  \n Sarah SCHLEUNING \nSarah Schleuning is the Margot B. Perot Senior
  Curator of Decorative Arts and Design at the Dallas Museum of Art. Ms. Sc
 hleuning is responsible for the DMA’s Decorative Arts and Design collectio
 n\, internationally recognized as one of the foremost decorative arts coll
 ections in the United States. With more than 8\,000 works of art spanning
  a chronological range of six centuries\, from the 15th century to the pre
 sent\, the collection includes a broad range of media such as furniture\,
  textiles\, glassware\, ceramics\, metalware\, and silver. In her role\, S
 chleuning also oversees decorative arts and design exhibition planning\, d
 evelopment\, and scholarship and future acquisition efforts. \nServing as
  an expert in her field for more than two decades\, Schleuning has had a n
 otable career that includes numerous much-admired and extremely well atten
 ded exhibitions and insightful contributions to noted publications. Before
  coming to the DMA\, she oversaw the collection of decorative arts and des
 ign at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta\, where she spearheaded major spe
 cial exhibitions. Ms. Schleuning is Co-Curator of the  Cartier and Islamic
  Art  exhibition at the DMA. \n Kate AOKI \nKate Aoki\, AIA\, is an archit
 ect and the Head of Exhibition Design at the Dallas Museum of Art. With a
  BFA in Textile Design from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Master
  of Architecture degree from UTA CAPPA. Kate is fortunate to practice in a
  profession that satisfies both her passion for fine art and the design of
  space. She spent more than a decade at GFF\, Morrison Dilworth + Walls\,
  and most recently at DSGN Associates\, where she worked on a variety of p
 rojects that addressed important community needs. \nAs Head of Exhibition
  Design at the DMA\, Kate designs intimate and expressive spaces in ways t
 hat engage visitors while inviting them to learn more about the art they e
 xperience and the communities in which they thrive. Kate has dedicated muc
 h of her time to participating on art and architectural committees\, as we
 ll as studio and design award juries. As adjunct professor at the Universi
 ty of Texas at Arlington School of Architecture she taught second-year des
 ign fundamentals. Kate is the President-Elect of AIA-Dallas. She is also a
  member of the Board of Directors for The Dallas Architecture Forum\, and
